I have a confession to make: I almost quit this week.

It has only been a few weeks since I set a "Rock" (a 90-day goal) to publish three podcast episodes a week. To be honest? It is killing me.

It is taking three to four+ hours a day to record, edit, and publish. My inbox is a disaster. But the hardest part is that the quality isn't exactly where I want it to be yet. I have a deep moral opposition to putting "junk" out into the world, and right now, I feel like I'm flailing in the "Messy Middle."

We often look at other businesses and see their highlight reels—the perfect systems, the polished content. But we forget that they all started in the mud.

I decided not to quit. Instead, I am embracing the chaos. Here are the five reasons why I am choosing Quantity over Quality right now, and why you might need to do the same to grow your business.

1. The "One Thing" Permission Slip

We all want control. As CEOs, we want our business to be orderly. But Gary Keller, author of The One Thing, points out a hard truth: When you truly focus on one priority, other things will slide.

That chaos isn't a sign of failure; it is a sign of focus.

  • I haven't filed my taxes yet.

  • I haven't reached "Inbox Zero."

  • I haven't engaged on social media as much as I wanted.

But that is okay. If I tried to keep my inbox perfect and do my taxes and post on social media, this podcast—my "One Thing"—would never happen. The mess is actually proof that I am doing the work that matters.

(I talk more about the danger of trying to do everything at once in [Episode 8: Why Everything Feels Urgent]).

2. Volume Negates Luck (The Hormozi Rule)

In his book $100M Leads, Alex Hormozi recommends spending 100 minutes a day on content creation (or reaching out to 100 leads). Why focus on sheer volume?

While experts like Oliver Burkeman (Meditations for Mortals) and Mithu Storoni (Hyperefficient) warn that our brains max out at about four hours of deep work per day, this actually proves that a high-volume sprint of just 100 minutes is not only sustainable but falls perfectly within your biological limits

Because volume creates systems and drives results.

If I only produced one episode a week, it would take me months to figure out my workflow. By forcing myself to do three a week, I am finding efficiencies and hacks that I would never discover if I was moving slowly. I am also producing the volume of content that will drive the the results I seek.

  • The Lesson: You cannot optimize a system that doesn't exist. You have to put in the reps to build the muscle.

3. Quantity Creates Quality (The Mr. Beast Strategy)

Mr. Beast gives this advice to aspiring creators: Don't ask for help until you have made 100 videos and made a small improvement on each one. Why? Because he knows they will learn more by putting in the reps than he could ever teach them.

  • If I sat back and researched the "perfect" podcast strategy, I wouldn't learn anything.

  • By publishing imperfect episodes, I am learning my voice. I am learning to speak without a script. I am learning to stop hiding behind perfectionism.

As Pat Flynn says, "You have to crunch before you bench." I don't like listening to my own episodes right now because I hear the stutters and the flaws. But that is how I improve.

4. The Safety of the "Quarterly Rock"

It is February. Most people have already abandoned their New Year's resolutions. This is why I love the concept of Quarterly Rocks from EOS (The Entrepreneurial Operating System).

A year is too long. A week is too short. But 90 days? That is the sweet spot.

  • It is long enough to get real data and test if a strategy works.

  • It is short enough that I can tell myself, "I can survive this for just a few more weeks."

At the end of this quarter, I might decide that three episodes a week is too much. And that is fine. But I will make that decision after I have the data, not because I felt uncomfortable in the middle of the process.

(If you are prone to quitting strategies too early, go back and listen to [Episode 5: Why You Keep Switching Strategies]).

5. Sowing vs. Reaping (The Long Game)

Finally, I had to remind myself that business is a long game.

I know the ROI on a podcast is delayed. I might not see a client from this for months. But I am sowing seeds.

  • If you plant a seed, you don't get fruit the next day.

  • If you don't plant the seed because you want fruit now, you will starve later.

By sticking to this volume, I am building a library of assets that will serve my business for years. I am doing the work today to reap the harvest later.

(I discuss this "Long Game" mindset versus the "Sprint" mindset in detail in [Episode 1]).

My Challenge to You: The Volume Sprint

Where in your business are you stalling because you are waiting for it to be "perfect"? Are you waiting to launch the offer, hire the employee, or post the content?

Stop waiting. Here is your action plan for the rest of this quarter:

  1. Identify ONE area where you are stalling or need to build a system.

  2. Commit to a "Volume Sprint": Dedicate 90 minutes a day to this one task.

  3. Do it messy: Do not worry about quality yet. Put in the reps. Break the system so you can fix it.

  4. Evaluate at the end of the quarter: Once the quarter is over, look at the data. Then—and only then—decide if you want to keep going, tweak it, or quit.

If you need a little courage to start, remember what we talked about in [Episode 13: The "One Thing" Strategy That Outperforms Marketing]—sometimes the best way to get moving is to stop focusing on yourself and focus on serving the person on the other end.
